Hideous Rebirth – Completely Devoured (Gore House Productions, 2015)

hideous-rebirthGore House Productions is on a mission to brutalize the living hell out of 2015.  First they pummeled us to a pulp with Bloodscribe’s Prologue to the Apocalypse, now they’re stomping the bloody remains into the ground with Completely Devoured, a short sharp shock of an EP from Riverside, CA’s Hideous Rebirth.  It’s ten-and-a-half minutes of chainsaw guitars and gristle-gargling vocals that manages to leave a mark in spite of its brevity.

Never mind the fact that the EP sports one of the best brutal death metal song titles ever in the form of “Butthole Portal,” the music is what matters, and the music on Completely Devoured is downright nasty.  Much like Bloodscribe’s aforementioned debut full length, Completely Devoured strikes a balance between raw ugliness and stripped-down precision to deliver a BDM beating that simply doesn’t have time to get monotonous.  By keeping things short and sweet, Hideous Rebirth brings the pain but also leaves the listener wanting more.

Completely Devoured is a good introduction to Hideous Rebirth and a perfect release for those looking for a quick and dirty fix of brutal death metal.  It could also serve as a jumping-on point for fledgling listeners who are interested in the style but not quite ready to handle a full length. Regardless of which camp you fall into, this ear-slaughtering EP is well worth your time.
